The History of Video Games: Public Event

As part of a class that I teach titled “The History of Video Games,” I have tasked students with a final project. They need to write an essay on a topic of their choosing. They also have to do a live presentation of that content, or, submit a recorded video essay. We will be holding a live public event for this on Jan 15th. We plan to invite some local game designers based in Tokyo to give feedback. Details are below.

My participation

I don’t like to only give students projects. If I demand it of them, I should do it, too. That is why I am going to be talking about the world of PICO-8. It was my first time making a video essay, and was a fun project. I know it’s not the best video essay that has ever been created, but it’s mine, and DONE is better than PERFECT (at least, that is the mantra I’ll stick with here).

As part of making the video, I had the wonderful opportunity to interview one of the most recognisable faces of the PICO-8 scene: Krystian from Lazy Devs Academy.
